How to (sustainably) change your life

Waking up to the alarm sound on a cold Monday morning, the first thought I had was “you know what Anna, you don’t NEED to be up at 5am, just give yourself this one morning of sleep in…”, and almost as soon as I thought it, I caught myself with that negative mind-set and reminded myself I am not here to live mediocrely and be defined by average, I am here to live extraordinarily – so off the covers went and up I got.

The session was like most others, most mornings. I felt good, I had energy, I smashed a PB (personal best) on at least one of the reps on at least one of the exercises, I laughed, I said hello to some of the other regular 5am gym go’ers and I pressed ‘end’ on my workout app by 6:20am.

The usual high-five from the app happened telling me the PB I hit that day and the count of how many workouts I had completed occurred.

Only today, when the number landed on its final count, I smiled ear to ear.

200 work outs with my amazing trainer Lochie who uploads my food plans and work outs in to an app that I use daily.

I went home feeling fulfilled and sore – and that particular morning doing my gratitude’s, I put “my health and commitment to having health & vitality as my #1 value”.

Jumping on FB for the first time that day, I celebrated my 200th work out with a status and checking my notifications I saw the memories notification Facebook has now – something I actually LOVE checking daily to see what I was doing on this day 1, 2, 3, 4 even 5 or 6 years ago.

Screen Shot 2016-07-27 at 1.03.11 pm

Except this time, a status made me stop dead in my tracks, and another smile ear to ear broke out.

It was the exact same day, July 25th 2010 – 6 years ago.

It read….

IMG_9227

From celebrating having such a strong value around health and vitality, around moving my body every day and then honouring it with clean food and natural supplements – to this. Completely not honouring my body, and neglecting it for WEEKS with no exercise or clean / health / nourishing eating only a mere 6 years ago.

6 years to the day and I honestly don’t think I could be a more different woman.

Here is the thing though, something has been swirling in my heart for a while and this was just the slap in the face I needed to put hand to keyboard to write it for you.

That jump, from binge drinking, sleeping in, recreational drug use, no exercise (ever), choosing to skip meals and / or eat crap majority of the week to … rising at 5am daily, moving my body 7 days of the week, eating clean nourishing whole foods, complementing my food plan with natural wholesome incredible supplements …. DID NOT HAPPEN OVER NIGHT.

The other day, I was talking to my girlfriend in the kitchen about the life we get to live now and the advice or statuses that I write coming from that place of health and happiness now, and I said…. “you know what babe, I actually get that some of the stuff I say or write would piss people off, I bet they do sometimes sit there and say ‘what-the fuck-ever” … because they don’t know the story behind the work and sweat and blood and tears and sacrifice its taken for me to get to the place I can write and share like I do.

Point is…. I get it.

That was the moment I knew I wanted to write this piece. Then as fate and my life would have it Facebook put two of the most opposing statuses I have written next to each other on the same day, 6 years apart.

And here I am.

So back to the story of my journey not happening over night.

LONG before I started nutritional cleansing, back when I was the girl who’d sleep in, have a big glass of coke and a packet of kettle salt and vinegar chips in bed (yep, I uhhhh, I really did that) and never ever respected her body with exercise and in turn, getting my body to its heaviest… I knew that I had to change, and so I did.

me

Morgan and I went to a food information night 6 years ago, where we started to educate ourselves on food. We learnt how to read the back of packets, we learned the difference between good and bad sugars and good and bad carbs, we learned about portion sizes (hardest lesson of all to learn!) and learned about good wholesome foods.

And oh SO slowly, but most definitely surely …. We started to change our diets and way of life.

I went from eating white carbs (your rice, bread, pasta, white potatoes) from 7 nights of the week, to 5, then to 4 when we felt ready, then to 2…..then to none. That process alone took MONTHS and we never once felt like we were depriving ourselves. All the while dropping grams or kg’s as I went.

Whilst switching out the white carbs (andddd things like packet sauces and gravy of course) we were completely over hauling our diet to a clean healthy one. So lots of fresh veggies, smaller sizes of meat, 2 nights of no meat a week and good carbs like sweet potato or quinoa – so the cutting of food was also replaced by new healthy eating.

Then went the coke (a cola) addiction. I never tried to quit over night. WHY? Because I KNEW if I was going to change my health, I needed to make SUSTAINABLE changes and cutting everything I had been so used to wasn’t going to give me lasting sustainable change.

So with the coke, I went from drinking 600ml – 1L of coke a day, to just ONE 600ml coke zero a day (still bad I know, but less sugar). Then I cut down to 5 days, then 3 days .. then just one over the weekend to …. None.

I never felt deprived and I didn’t struggle as I allowed the change of habit to happen gradually.

yas

Then came the exercise. If you had of told the Anna & Morgan back then they’d end up LOVING the gym and be in it daily in the years to come, they would have laughed you to another continent.

Instead, we woke up just a LITTLE earlier than 7am – 7:30am and went for a small walk around the block. Pretty soon, we loved doing it, and wanted to wake up even earlier, and increase our exercise .. so we got up just a little earlier again, and went for 2 – 3 blocks now. It got to the point we were up at 6am every morning going for a 5-7km walk before work and loving it. It THEN got to the stage we had both dropped just over 5kg from me, 7-8kg from Morgan, from this new way of life that we felt ready to join a gym … which we did, really close to our house and went and started running on the treadmill with a few little weights.

But again – see how it was gradual, it was slow, it was what was right for us.

I have ALWAYS been open and honest (of course) as well, and shared that amongst these years of change – I had a major jaw surgery which fundamentally changed my life. Top & bottom jaw broken and re aligned to fix a severe underbite. Whilst having my jaw wired shut for close to 4 weeks, I lost another 6kg’s.

Once I was cleared to exercise again, and was able to eat ‘normal food’ (aka not soup and mash potato) – our new habits were our new way of life and I knew I was NEVER going back to how we lived and ate before.

Upp’ing our training / exercise even more and REALLY living a life of clean eating, it’s when I lost my final 6kg taking my total weight loss over almost a 3 year period to 17kg. Which to this day I have maintained (which very long story cut short, the maintenance of that loss AND feeling a million dollars is thanks to nutritional cleansing – I am not going in to the last 3 years journey in this post though but if you want to read about that I have written about it here, here and here

So you see, when I share aspects of my life now, saying things like, you can either have results or excuses, but you can’t have both, or; it’s all just a choice, sleeping in and feeling like crap or getting up and showing up even if you don’t feel like it … understand that it comes from the deepest place of understanding, because I have lived and breathed both lifestyles.

And it has been a long and crazy journey to get to the place I own the advice I now give from a loving place.

The real point to this whole piece though is this ….

START TODAY AND START SMALL.

Change can be scary. I get it.

Change can be hard. I get it.

Change can be overwhelming. I get it.

Change can feel unsustainable. I get it.

But guess what?

It doesn’t have to be any of those things if you find your own rhythm and groove with it.

When I was trying to flip my life quite literally on it’s head I knew I couldn’t do it all at once. I knew the power was going to come from slower change, one step at a time, one day at a time kind of change.

And I am imparting the same wisdom on to you now .. with love.

Start Somewhere, start anywhere, start today … but don’t start it ALL at once.

You want to stop sleeping in so much, start eating healthier, move your body regularly and start an awesome morning routine??

AWESOME…

But where can you start small and start today?

Could it be that instead of skipping breakfast, you start to just get up even TEN minutes earlier and have a healthy smoothie? Does it mean not putting on tv at night until you have also made yourself a yummy / healthy lunch to take to work the next day? Could that just be the ONE first SMALL change you can make?

Could it be that instead of putting off exercise because you’re a bit timid of the gym, you go for a big walk every day instead? Walking is a powerful powerful exercise for the body and an excellent start in building the confidence to eventually get in the gym. Could that just be the ONE first SMALL change you can make?

Could it be that instead of getting out of bed with dread because you had another late night, you hit snooze 5 times, and will be rushed to get to work again, you commit to an earlier bed time NO MATTER WHAT for just one week – and a NO SNOOZE option for JUST one week, and see how that makes you feel? The answer is of course you can, it’s all just a choice and this alone could literally transform your days. So could THIS just be the one first SMALL change you can make?

There is a quote I love and adore by Robin Sharma that says:

“Don’t live the same life 75 times and call it a life”.

And I couldn’t agree more.

That extraordinary health, love, sex, health and happiness you seek (and is your birth right just by the way) is all on the other end of your own habits your cultivating in your life and how you’re creating your world.

I absolutely believe that a healthy body and a healthy mind are connected and to get one the other follows naturally. That was the way for me and I have seen in countless others. And once you have those two major, key, fundamental aspects of your life in order – the rest DOES fall in to place.

So start anywhere. Start somewhere. Start small. But PLEASE start today, and start with ONE THING.

life

The coolest thing is, once you have that one thing nailed, the healthy nutritious smoothie for breakfast instead of skipping meals or the earlier bed time and no snoozing, or the walking every single day … you tackle the next area you are keen to change.

And slowly but surely, block by block, day by day, month by month – you start to design a body / mindset and LIFE you LOVE.

I’ll never say the road to making big changes in your life is easy, it’s not, if it was every body would be doing it – but I CAN say that it’s worth it.

The gap for you now, between the life you’re living currently, to the one you want to be living in terms of your health and fitness, is simply the action you choose to get in to from today onwards, or the action you choose NOT to get in to from this day onwards. And THAT is the difference between successful people and unsuccessful ones that stay stuck where they are blaming external influences and environments on where they’re stuck.

If you’re here though, reading this blog, and you have gotten this far – it tells me a lot about you, and it tells me you are one of those successful people wiling to put in the action to make the changes in your life you so desire.

So, start today – you don’t need to wait until Monday to start making incremental changes in your life nor wait for a new season to start a new life … you can start today, right now.

And as always, I will be cheering you on the loudest – and the proudest.

Tuning in to your soul; to live on purpose

It’s 7:30am here in beautiful Bali and I am currently sitting over looking the infinity pool that looks out over the ocean here at our divine hotel. There are no other souls in sight, and why would there be, I think I’m the only weirdo who still loves waking up really early on ‘holidays’.

It’s just me, my book, my gratitude journal, my conscious creating journal, my laptop and the energy of total and utter fulfillment.

I came to Bali to work by the infinity pool – Morgan and I have created a life for ourselves where we are location independent so can just pack up and go work from a pool instead of our home office whenever we feel like it and we did just that the last week – but I also had a deep desire to find a better groove and rhythm with my schedule. And I knew it would take a trip to Bali to ground and centre in to it.

Back on May 23rd 2011 I pressed publish on my very first post on my very first blog I created; lifesshinyprettythings. Back then no one really knew what a blog was, in fact most people absolutely didn’t know what they were and even more people didn’t do it. Blogs were big in the U.S but very few Aussie girls were creating spaces to share their daily musings online.

FYS4

I loved the idea of it though, I was a young girl of 23 trying to find her mark in the world and was going through such massive transformation I wanted a space to share all of that – who I was, where I was headed, and the journey along the way. I also loved to write, ever since I was little I have loved to write, so it was like combining a sincere passion of mine with an awesome idea – and lifesshinyprettythings was born.

Every single day forever more, I came home from my full time corporate career, and spent every night in my zen den, writing for my online space.

It literally became the thing that kept me up late and got me up early and my love of writing only deepened. I was even viewing the world through new lenses as being an almost daily poster (aka, sharing one post a day) meant I needed to go through new experiences or emotions to share congruently and authentically.

Over time and love and sweat, I accrued a beautiful organic following of like minded women who too loved what I loved and resonated with what I shared.

It was thanks to that blog I knew that corporate REALLY wasn’t for me – I used to get so passionate about writing and wanting to grow that to videos, courses – whatever I could to empower women as I found empowerment through finding my own voice.

FYS1

March 2013, so almost 2 years after starting the blog, I found network marketing through the worlds BEST company. I said a big excited yes to nutritional cleansing and everything that came with that and CANNON BALLED in to the business side of the company. Why? Because after years of blogging and knowing corporate wasn’t for me, I knew I had found the very vehicle that could allow more time AND financial freedom in my life.

Cannon balling in to something and giving it your absolute all – all of my spare time, waking moments, love and attention… other things in my life had to be put aside; and writing daily for the blog was one of them. And you know what, it had to happen. I had finally found the exact thing that was actually going to give me the time and financial freedom Morgan and I were so desperately looking for in our life, and with all great success stories, it had to take, and did take sacrifice.

I didn’t neglect it entirely of course, you can’t ignore your passion entirely after all, I even did the huge job of re branding my little ole space of lifesshinyprettythings to the new annaandmorgan dot com site that I pour my time and attention in to today.

Here is the thing though, for the last 3 years, I have built my business, and for at the very least 1 of those years, I have had the eternal tug of wanting to go back to writing and posting much more frequently, but I always had an excuse.

That I should be doing a call instead.

That I shouldn’t start my day with writing (when I’m most in my creative energy) because that is when I should be doing biz emails or biz ‘things’.

That I shouldn’t do something that makes me feel so GOOD when I am not where I want to be with our business goals yet.

That I don’t have the time.

These are just some – I could probably actually write a book on excuses as to why I hadn’t gone back to my daily writing practice.

But there it was still. That eternal tug at my soul, write Anna, write.

I started to talk to Morgan about it. Like I was almost seeking approval.

I told him I wanted to go back to writing again, and he told me I should. I told him though that my writing would have to be in the morning, when I normally do a lot of my big impact biz stuff and that he would have to step up – and he said he would. He also reminded me that there was another 10 hours of my day (more even) that I could hit the biz stuff in after I had filled my cup first with writing.

I said ok.

So here I sit, at 7:30am in the morning, poolside in Bali, flexing my writing muscle again – declaring I’m back. That is the thing as well, if I am accountable to you again, whoever this is, taking the time out of your busy crazy day to read this little space of the internet – then I hold myself extremely accountable.

And guess what?

It feels so.fucking.good.

FYS2

And that’s the thing about following the eternal tug on your soul – following what your soul is asking of you (for me, that was to write), feels GOOD, and good feelings put you in flow, and being in flow, leads to an incredibly beautiful and divinely inspired life.

This is just my story. I want to know yours though. The greatest story yet to be told is always your own but I hope if you learned anything for my own, its that you have to start listening to your soul again (it’s not woo woo, it’s the same as if I wrote trust your gut, or listen intuitively to what your body or mind is asking for).

What is it in your own life you have kept putting off because you’ve been too busy, or because it feels GOOD which makes you feel guilty?

Is it making sure you have a bath husband / kid and phone free every single night?

Is it privately journaling about a new journey you’re on?

Is it taking a candle making course?

Is it colouring in with really loud music when you get home from work?

I don’t know what your own soul / intuition / gut instinct is telling you to do, but I know you’re ignoring it, and I know listening to mine and getting back to the thing I love makes me incredibly happy, and it will for you too.

We have one go at this particular life darling heart – and if we don’t do the things we love on a daily basis then we just aren’t doing this life thing right.

So today, I dare you to follow your gut, listen to your intuition, tune in to your soul, and do the thing that its asking for most.

I promise you – you won’t regret it.

Anna

Finding your purpose in life

Oh. Why hey there you. I am so glad you’re with me in this exact moment as it’s right where you need to be. How are you feeling? Breathe. Sit with me for a moment and just be aware of the space you’re in. Is it calm? Relaxed? Or are you a little stressed and overwhelmed. Whatever space it is, I need you with me, all of you with all of me so clear it all out – and be open for what Im about to say – and hey, I need you to listen, really listen.
Are you ready?
You are actually a miracle. Fact. You, sitting here in front of this screen, reading these words. With your beating heart and incredible mind. With your breathe and your nuances.
A remarkable miracle, here on earth, born for a reason. You’re not here by chance or luck, you are here because you have purpose. A big one. You were born for a reason, and let me assure you, that your life’s mission was never, and will never be to just get by, it’s not justto exist. No freaking way.
Your lifes mission is to LIVE.  Live with gusto. Awe. Wonder. To play. Laugh. Get excited. Feel aligned. Be connected. To serve. Give. To wake with a fire in your belly so great you can’t help but to leap out of bed. To receive all of lifes gifts. It’s to know true happiness.
Heavy stuff? Not a chance. It’s pure FACT. Divine truth. Your birth right is to live a life of love and abundance and if you’re accepting anything less, then gorgeous, it’s time we got you back on the path you were born to be on.
At the moment I am truly blessed. I get to work for myself doing work that fills my whole heart and soul. I get to visit the beach on sunny days. I get to chose where I travel to in the world and when. I get to chose an income and earn it. I get to live my life of ideal days and genuinely help others do the same. There really was a journey to this life I now get to live though and my own life’s mission now is just to wake others up to their own greatness and potential and lead them to their own version of freedom, abundance and love.
So, with your permission, I’d love to share some little things you can start doing today, right now, to start heading back to a life of living, not just existing. That’s ok? Wonderful, I knew you’d be up for it…let’s begin then shall we?
Always want more

This could be the same as ‘never settle. Always wanting more means never accepting status quo. It means seeing barriers and breaking through them. It means setting goals that scare you because you ALWAYS want more. More from life, more from friends, more from love, but even most importantly more from yourself. Being the miracle that you are you have enormous capabilities to love and to serve and to give and to laugh and to have fun and to set huge goals and achieve them. Sometimes though, or even more sadly, regularly, we don’t want to deal with fear or rejection and so, we settle for less – we live a life that’s comfortable. I assure you though, you don’t want comfortable. You want more. You’ve got a goal to start your own business by 30? Why 30? Why not see if you can’t start putting things in to play now? That’s wanting more. You have achieved great success in a big project you’ve been working on that lit you up? Do something even grander and of more service next time. That too is wanting more.
Someone that wants more is the one you see dancing completely to the beat of their own drum living an extraordinary life – be that person.
Be grateful

An attitude of gratitude attracts abundance. Fact. The more you are grateful the more wildly phenomenal your life will get. It’s science I swear. I can single handedly point to massive growth and happiness in my life when my gratitude grew and grew.  Every time you are actively being grateful, genuinelygrateful, and expressing that gratitude in all areas of your life – more magic will occur (miracles, if you are open to that word). If you look at all the successful people in the world, and I don’t mean just riches, and tried to find a commonality amongst them all, it would be – gratitude.
If you struggle with daily acts of gratitude, just start small. When you awake, say thank you for the simple reason you are in fact awake. Being alive is in itself a big enough reason to be deeply grateful. If your favourite song comes on the radio, smile and express gratitude. If you love coffee and can sit and your work desk with a hot cup of Joe’ – smile and express gratitude. Even simply if you have two working legs, arms, eyes and ears – smile and express deep, deep gratitude – because what a gift of health that is.
Something magical happens when you start to express more gratitude too – and not just miracles – MORE of the good stuff gets attracted in to your life and you will start to find more and more things to be grateful for. By focusing on what you do have you attract an energy of abundance – so start to flex this muscle more and more and more until gratitude is a natural daily practice all day everyday.
Be open

To be open is to live.  Being open can be so beautifully and simply put as not judging. So you disagree with someone because they don’t look or sound similar to you. That’s totally ok, accept them anyway. Or maybe you have worked yourself up because someone had a different opinion to you that you got quite angry over. Breathe. Look at different opinions as gifts and that you got to hear a different version of events that you had not looked at in that light previously. I sometimes just sit in gratitude I in fact live in a country of democracy where people are allowed to have their own opinions. To be open is to live a life with open ears, open eyes but most importantly an open heart.
Gorgeous, guess what. Shit happens.
People will have different opinions. Things will not always, in fact sometimes rarely go to plan. Life will have ups and downs. You will have bad days. There will be dreams and goals you have to let go off.  Those you love you may lose.
Be open anyway.
Life is meant to be lived with open ears, open eyes and an open heart. The disappointment, prolonged hurt, anger and hate comes from closed ears, closed eyes and a closed heart.
Be open to new ideas. New adventures. New ways of thinking. New food. New people. New travel suggestions, new opportunities – but mainly, just be open to what life has to offer you as it all is a gift with the lessons we are gifted to learn.
Live everyday with awe and wonder – everyday

It’s the small things in life. Happiness doesn’t have to be elusive because nothing major has happened or is happening in your life. That barista that put a love heart or leaf in your coffee? That should make your day. Because frankly, whether they’re paid to kick ass at their job or not, they really didn’t need to go that extra mile – but guess what? They did. Your favourite song that comes on the radio? Your mind should be blown. It sounds silly (maybe) but to me, this is a love of fulfillment.
We were born with a natural awe and wonder. When our parents used to blow bubbles and play peek a boo – we thought it was the most magical thing in the WORLD – and yet somehow, somewhere along the way, we completely lost our way. Everything became normal. Boring. You’ve got to get BACK to that awe & wonder. It’s time to shake of the shackles of normal and wake back up.  You have sunsets, and laughter and love hearts in your coffee and divine choice for things like cooking your favourite food for goodness sake. Pretty wonderful
So here we are. If you’re still here, reading these words, I honour you. My only wish in this life is to live a life I am proud of with joy and love and service and help anyone willing to do the same to do so. The above words are soaked in honestly, truth and love, and if you can even start small, and adopt one – your life will have radical change.

It just starts with the openness to want it bad enough – and I hope you do.

Finding & growing your tribe

Tribe
a group of people in your life, it can be many, or few that get you, that get you right to your souls core. They LOVE you. They Support you. Your tribe is a group of people that so fundamentally get your essence and bring your YOU out in a beautiful & inspiring way. They see your heart, and they see your soul and allow your authentic self to live it’s truth. – Anna Ogilvie
There is something so incredibly sexy about soul connection. You know what I mean yes? It’s that moment when you meet someone, it could be a new stranger or an old friend who you haven’t seen in for-ev-ah and you just zing
Zing is that immediate bond between you both, goals align, excitement bubbles and this person brings the best of YOU out. You let that precious guard down without even realising and bare your truth, the real you. It’s liberating, Deeply fulfilling and the beginnings of an authentic friendship. That zing is connection gorgeous.
These kinds of friends are the ones who get you. Who love you. Who, after a breakfast date or wine over dinner or phone conversation make you feel like a better person than from the beginning of the conversation.
And it is these kind of friendships that you should be attracting and allowing in your life. These are the souls that make up your tribe, they are your tribe, and you need to attract them, nurture them and fill your life with these kind of friendship connections.
Your tribe are beautiful individuals that support and inspire you effortlessly.
Your tribe are the ones who you would call with good news for squeals and excitement, and call with bad news for love and support.
Your tribe are, put simply, who you are filling your life with.
Who is in your tribe? Who are you attracting in your life? Are they bringing the best of you out? Loving you? Supporting you? Inspiring you? Are they positive people?
The people that you are surrounding yourself with play an incredibly important role in your life – so choose wisely. If you want to be more positive, surround yourself with more positive people. If you want to be happier, surround yourself with happier people. If you want to have more love and good energy, (first you must be that person yourself) and then find others who are the same.
Your tribe is so fundamental to how you show up in life. If you have beautifully supportive people in your life cheering you on and wanting the best for you, you show up more authentic. You aren’t afraid to live your truth, to share, to be who you want to be, it all just becomes a little easier to let your you out, because as well as knowing the universe (always) has your back, so does your tribe.
So the question I need you to ask yourself today babe is – who have you got in your tribe? Are they kindred souls who support you in every which way? Or are they negative self doubters who would do anything and everything to keep you in their comfort zone and not see you shine. If your answer is the second one, we need to have a serious talk.
As you embark on your week I am sending you loving confidence to take stock of who you are currently surrounded by – and if they’re shit people, to gently start cutting them from your life. You can’t go through transformative growth or shine bright like the gorgeous diamond you are with negative haters and nay sayers in your tribe. Make today the day you admit to yourself you deserve all the love and happiness in the world and today is the day that you are going to start taking back more control of exactly who you are letting in to your life, and ultimatley your tribe.
You are so worthy and capable of acheiving anything and everything that you desire in this big beautiful world – and a huge part of that success will come from the loving support you get along the way.
Be brave. Cut the shit. Attract the positive & start letting your you out and aligning with your essence.

The Secret to happiness; You get to CHOOSE how you feel.

I want to get a little personal here. Maybe even step on a few toes, but it’s been something that is on my heart and sneaking in to a shit tonne of my conversations recently.
I want to talk to you about Choices. Your choices in fact.
You have power beautiful. In fact SO much power I don’t even think you understand.
At any given moment, on any given day, for any given event…you, you vast & brilliant soul, have the power to choose.
Choose how you react. Choose how you feel. Choose how you want to interpret what is happening. Choose the outcome of the whole situation.
We have at the tips of our fingertips an incredibly powerful tool that wants to support us in every given second. Our Minds. THAT is what gives us the power of choice.
You choose anger over happiness. You can just as easily choose happiness over anger instead.
You choose frustration over remaining calm & peaceful. You can just as easily choose calm & balanced state of mind over frustration.
You choose stressing out instead of knowing you WILL get through it & you ARE ok. And guess what? You can just as easily choose believing you will get through it and that you are ok instead of stressing out.
You choose guilt & suspicion over trust and love. You can un choose it just as fast and choose love and trust instead.
You just have to CHOOSE.
Choose happiness.
Choose love.
Choose being ok.
Choose not feeling stressed. Breathe. Think with perspective.
Choose Peace.
I swear to you gorgeous it’s that simple. Caught in a traffic jam and running late? You are the only one working yourself up over it. Nobody is forcing you too. Nobody is making you get angry, but you. Your boyfriend hasn’t done something that you really wanted him to? (well you should communicate better but that’s a whole other post) Choose understanding & calm instead of blame and anger and moodiness.
There is honestly no secret to my positivity and happiness – I CHOOSE these feelings every.single.day. I am so very aware at how I have the power to pick how I want to feel, that how I interpret a situation is what gives me my outcome so I just ensure I choose better feelings. There is no point, ever, to choose negativity over happiness, or stress over calm. EVERY time I read this quote I literally yell YES so loud on the inside as it is speaks it’s truth so loud…
“Actually I just woke up one day and I decided I didn’t want to feel like that anymore, or ever again, so I changed. Just Like that.”
Your challenge then beautiful if you choose (there’s that word again) to accept it…
This week be consciously aware of your feelings – and choose the better option. CHOOSE to not get stressed out over silly things that are going to pass anyway. CHOOSE to not get angry over little insignificant moments that worth aren’t negative or bad energy. CHOOSE love over judgement. CHOOSE positive thoughts over negative ones.
We are the creators of our own universe, we are what we think and we can CHOOSE at any given moment to feel better and pick a thought or feeling that serves us over one that doesn’t.
I want you to choose Love. Happiness. Peace. Belief. Hope. That it will be ok. That you will get through it. That there is so much more to life than the negatives you might be going through.
Above all – I want you to choose a life that you love living, and that starts with the choice of your thoughts.
Light & love,
Anna xx

Inspiring Babe of the week: Peta Kelly from Anatome Integrated Wellness

I honestly don’t even know where to begin with this babe’in soul she is just THAT amazing. If you haven’t already heard of Peta or been inspired by her incredibly amazing page it would be my honour to introduce you both.
Peta & I were introduced through a mutual friend (check out her amazing Pinterest here). She had seen we were posting similar positive ‘stuff’ on our facebook walls and connected us in a message. We had caught up for a ‘blind date’ lunch and almost 3 hours later I was walking away buzzing, inspired, excited & connected – I felt like we had the start of a soul sista love story.

Her energy, infectious. Her goals can’t help but inspire & love of life unparallelled. She can walk in a room and by the end of a talk shift mindsets and inspire you to live better and be better. She quite literally changes lives.

She is quite possibly the most energetic, loving, soulful, INSPIRING girl I know. Hands down. Fo’ real. She lives her truth, walks her talk, and has taught me about living life with ease and abundance. (We also share the same dream to retire our mums – soon!!)
She is the wonderful soul behind “Anatome Integrated Wellness” that aims to “Embody all aspects of Wellness ~ Wellness of the body, the mind, the soul and one’s finances. Anatome aims to nourish and encourage people all over the world to live a life purely by their own design”

See what I mean? You’re going to LOVE her so grab yourself a cup of herbal tea and settle in for some serious soul’spiration x

+ So what do you do Peta? What is your big life vision & where did it come from?
I work with a team of AMAZING young people who are creating a life purely by their own design, while helping others do the same!
More specifically, I have a wellness business called Anatome Integrated Wellness. The vision of Anatome is to help people achieve complete wellness in their lives through an integrated approach with health, nutritional cleansing, personal development, spiritual development and wealth creation. I’m going through a bit of a transformation/evolution with Anatome and it will soon fall under the umbrella of ‘Life by my Own Design.’
I’ve always had a massive passion for everything health and wellbeing, and in particular, obesity! I grew up in a very active family of 4 kids and we played every sport under the sun. To me, we were the most blessed kids on the planet, enjoying lives in healthy bodies with the love and support of our amazing single Mum!

I decided early on in life I was going to get rich and retire my Mum. How? I had no idea. But I knew it’d come. Anyway, after graduating from UWA with a BSc (Hons), and having my research on exercise and appetite published, I started a phD to continue more of the same. I soon realised in my own life though, that there was so much more to learn about the body, the mind and the soul that I needed to discover myself. Every Monday it was ‘a thing’ for my friends to be hating work, feeling gross, and just wishing the week away so that the weekend would come. It didn’t make sense to me. Why are we wishing away 5 amazing days, just to enjoy two? Around the time I came to this realisation, I was being given signs from the universe to change direction slightly so I listened to this ‘calling’, deferred my phD and started my own business aged 23. It started as a weight management business, integrating personal training and nutrition. I was learning more about the body at a deep level than ever before and slowly more pieces of the puzzle came together.  I still always felt that there was a missing link though. There was something that separated us from feeling great, to feeling AMAZING… I was on a hunt to figure it out. Raw foods, vegan, organic, juicing, you name it I was doing it.
Surely enough, a few short months later, the universe nudged me on the shoulder and I I was introduced to the wonderful world of nutritional cleansing and ZING!  There it was… The missing link. I could write forever about the details of this discovery, the synchronicities that followed and how FREAKISHLY perfectly timed it all was. I started to feel incredible like never before, so did my clients, my family and my friends. I thought YES! This is life!  We’re meant to wake up every day feeling amazing, full of energy, clear mind, feelings of joy, happiness endlessly and with ease. I also discovered an amazing new business model which allowed me to empower people to take control of their own lives on the inside, but on the outside too, financially.
It all clicked. Now THIS is complete wellness. My vision is to revolutionise the way young people view their health, their potential for wealth and in turn empower people of all ages live a life purely by their own design. I now lead a team of incredible young, inspiring leaders who want to change lives, starting with their own. By creating complete balance and alignment at the deepest level physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually we allow ourselves to live to our full potential. The business structure within our team allows us to dream big, live our life however we want to and help others do the same. Once I decided on my ‘WHY’, the ‘HOW’ came to me…
I now have both the WHY and the HOW.

Tell me where you draw your own inspiration from? What lights the fire in your belly?

      My Mum!!

The most hard working, selfless, brave and strong woman on the planet. She is my ‘why’ and she has taught me that giving selflessly with no boundaries is the only way to live.

I draw huge inspiration from books and audios. ‘ The Strangest Secret’ By Earl Nightingale is single handedly the 30 minute piece that picked me up from a road of mental and physical burnout at one stage, to putting me firmly on my path to freedom and joy. My wonderful team inspires me more than I can put into words. Being amongst young people who want more for the world and for themselves makes my heart sing.  AHHHHHH (Heart singing)

+ Is there a favourite book (or two!) and video that inspired you in big ways that you would love to share to inspire others?
The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz is a MUST READ for everyone no matter what you do or who you are!
The Go Giver- By Bob Burg. I live by the above two books.
You inspire me so much to ‘live life by my own design’ but not everybody knows what that means – can you explain to my readers what you mean when we say that?

Living a life by your own design means doing WHATEVER you want with WHOEVER you want WHENEVER you want to do it! It means being physically FREE, waking up feeling amazing, and going to bed feeling amazing too. It means earning more so you can GIVE more, with no limitations. It epitomises ABUNDANCE in all aspects. Love, happiness, prosperity, growth, health… It’s being able to design your ideal day, from start to finish. It’s being able to live from a place of love, while dreaming SO BIG that it’s scary, KNOWING that you will live your dreams. It’s a choice. We choose.

+ Being a girl who lives her life by her own design, describe to me your perfect day from start to finish?

My perfect day starts with waking up EARLY feeling amazing, with the first thought that comes into my head one of gratitude. I open up French doors that overlook the ocean and meditate for halfa. I have a yummy cleanse and then I get amongst nature, whether it be a run through a beaten track or a swim in the ocean.

Then I’ll get comfy on a hammock, or a bean bag on the balcony, inside or outside and read a book or listen to an  audio while drinking a super food smoothie and connecting all the senses. Then my ‘work’ day will begin and the real fun starts. I connect with my team, answer emails, make phone calls, have meetings. Throw some planning exciting events, holidays or trips in there too.

For lunch I will have some yummy organic food from one of my fav raw food/wholefood cafes in Fremantle or down south. After lunch, it’s more planning, more beautiful conversations including some success stories whether it be to do with health or wealth. At night we have a wicked team meeting/presentation with lots of newbies joining us!  My family is all there too 😉  As I write this I’m on the plane to Broome to spend a super fun week in the sunshine, connecting with people. My ideal day also involves being able to jump on a plane if I want to!

+ What are the 3 tips you can share to help others live their dream life. Where can they get started?

1)      Decide exactly what it is you want in your life and broadcast it. Vision board it and look at it every single day. Be clear on your ‘why’
2)      Nourish your body at the deepest level. If you get the inside right the outside will fall into place.
3)      Work harder on yourself than you do on your job. Always be learning.
4)      Can I have 4? – GIVE. ALWAYS BE GIVING!! ALWAYS BE GIVING? ALWAYS BE GIVING ALWAYS BE GIVING!! ALWAYS BE GIVING!!

+ What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

My Mum has given me plenty. So had my dear late Nanna.  One thing that sticks with me every single day is this… You are never deprived when someone else gains. It makes life that much more glorious to realise that and live it every single day

My happiness list

My cup’eth is overflowing with so much love, excitement and happiness at the moment it is ca-ra-zy. Things are just gel’ing you know?
I felt like I have been eb’ing and flow’ing with life a whole lot better than I have in the past and am just, in general, digging life really really hard.
It could be because I feel like I’ve not just been managing my time so much more effectively recently, but after learning about how important it is to manage our thoughts for stress – I’ve been doing just that. Or maybbeeeee it’s because I have been oh so grateful for every tiny thing in my life at the moment – like traffic wardens who will stand outside rain, hail or shine to get young kids across roads safely or the sunlight that streams through my front window every morning …. but whatever it is, I am totally rolling with it. Big Time.
As you read this, I’ll be celebrating my 25th birthday, yup, a quarter of a century – and I’ll be ‘catching up on life’. I took a (very) rare day off work to actually do stuff that is good for my soul. Write. Relax. Create. Eat. Chill with my loves. So as I do that, here are some other things that have made it on to my happiness list in recent times…
Planning my 25th picnic
I have to say, the last few weekends have been so fulfilling and fun for me as it had involved lot’s of planning for not just Morgs & I’s impending engagement party but my 25th birthday picnic I was oh so excited about. It was just one of those days. One of those perfect days. The styling for the picnic went off without a hitch, Perth put on some absolutely saucy weather – a beautiful sunny 28 degree day, and I was surrounded by all my favourite family and friends. I honestly a.d.o.r.e.d piecing together all the pretty elements for the day and think if I could quit my job tomorrow and become a coach slash event stylist and organiser – I would do it in a millisecond. (special / huge thanks goes to my wonderful girlfriend Deanne who made the table runner, a surprise 25th birthday banner & 5 liters of Sangria – yup 5 beautiful liters!!)

My inspiration cards

I don’t think I need to say much else other than how much I really do love and adore my new cards I got for my birthday (from another beautiful girlfriend Belinda). I ensure that before I leave home for the day to go and work my 9 hours in the corporate world (that I’m working hard to leave) I sit for an hour in my lady cave with my inspirational words (& vision board) around me.
How can you not start your day in spectacular fashion when you have the following surrounding you?
“Do what you love, love what you do”

“When you are arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive, to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love” – Marcus Aurelius

My new detox + Lifestyle

Game changer. Life changer. Shit freaking hot.
These are just 3 ways in which I would describe the current life changing detox Morgs & I are currently on. I had been searching for sometime for something that would give me a detox, and I mean, a soul nurturing, nutrient rich, non toxic proper detox. Not for weight loss. Not for a quick fix. Not a one off thing. An actual, healthy, amazing detox. Not just with clean eating etither. I do that. Morgs & I don’t eat pasta/rice/bread, we eat a shit tonne of veggies and we rarely eat processed or sugary foods. I wanted something to aid me in weight maintenance though, to clear my body of it’s toxins, and pump it right back up again full with rich, much needed nutrients.
My biggest reason for wanting this though was about wellness. I am convinced we are slowly becoming more & more toxic by the lack of nutrients in our soil and vitamins in our food and daily intake.
It’s not about being skinny either, it’s about being healthy.
It’s also  not about a quick fix, oh no, it’s about a whole lifestyle change.
I am SO excited to say I have found exactly what I was looking for in Isagenix.
It’s my reset.
I am currently on day 2, just day two and I already feel the difference. Day 1, was the first time in my working career life (that’s 10 years people) that I actually didn’t crave 3pm sugar hit. At all. I’m talking, I walked in to the kitchen, and didn’t even give a second glance to the bowl of chocolate & oreos that is available to me at any point of the day. This morning, when my alarm went off at 5am, without thinking, I just woke up. No grogginess  no feeling like a train hit me, I wanted to get up.
If I am like this after 2 days, I am literally jumping out of my skin with excitement once I finish it in a month (I’ll be doing a detox every month now for as long as I live).

p.s if you want to know more about it drop me an email at lifesshinyprettythings@gmail.com and I will pump you with as much information and guidance for your own detox / weight maintenance / weight loss / health journey as possible.

This amazing article

I am, without a shadow of a doubt a wisdom seeking, soul searching kinda gal. I believe due to us all having incredibly powerful, unique sets of gifts – there will always be somebody who knows an awful lot more than me and can guide me when I need it most.
So when I read this article over at tinybuddha – my heart skipped a little fluttery beat. It was “How to let go of fear to live passionately and authentically” – BOOM. It’s all that I seek right now and so when I happened to just stumble upon it by accident I thanked the universe for it’s divinely loud, but clear message.

The crux of it?

1. Do less, be more
2. Plan less, live more
3. Dwell less, create more.

Simple. Powerful. Beautifully true.

Being engaged + the love of my life

No matter what I have going on in life anymore – be it calm or mayhem, bliss or sadness, excitement or craziness, there is not a minute, hour or day that goes by that I am not grateful for the wonderful man that I have by my side for it all. He is just THAT guy. The guy who is my rock when I am supporting others. His the guy who gets me, knows me, supports me, has fun with me, will fight with me because of a passionate love and is just honestly the most amazing man I’ve ever come across on this earth.

My god do I love him. I love him so much, I sometimes think my heart will explode.

It’s almost 4 months since I said yes, as the sun rose over a Dubai desert and it was and always be the easiest decision I ever made in my life.

Your turn gorgeous – what are you most grateful for in your life at the moment? Was it an amazing sunset you got to catch the other morning? A new purchase you adore? I want to hear it! “Happiness is itself a kind of gratitude” (joseph krutch) so I want to hear whats making you happy.
Big warm sun beams of love and light,

Sugar, Stress & Sleep – what you need to know

Stress Less

I was beyond excited when I got a special invitation to attend Gwinganna’s recent wellness event in Perth. The evening was an hour of power with the General Manager and lifestyle specialist at Gwinganna, Sharon Kolkka discussing tips and latest research to how all three essential elements, when unbalanced, will prevent you responding to situations effectively.

In a nutshell, they wanted to get down to business and talk about the serious affects that Sleep (or lack there of), (too much) Sugar & Stress has on our mind and bodies.

And oh boy did I love, adore and get so much out of the power hour of information.

I felt empowered by the information I learnt though – inspired to lead an even more balanced and stress free life and wanted to share the important things I learnt from the evening with you guys though of course.

So here it is; in plain black and white…

When you aren’t getting enough sleep, it causes you to make bad choices when it comes to reaching for sugary foods throughout the day (helloooo 3pm chocolate bar) but the reason why you aren’t getting enough sleep, is to do with the bad food choices (& alcohol choices you make) which ultimately results in a stressed out, overwhelmed you.

Sound familiar? Of course it does, because in this day and age we can all relate to it.
The biggest take home lesson for me however was more to do with this;
Just how powerful our THOUGHTS truly, deeply, really are. Stress, it would seem, has become such a common practice for us these days, managing stress isn’t just about managing our time anymore .. we have to manage our thoughts.

Sharon went on to say that being stressed today has almost become like a badge of honour – that our work has bled in to our home life and that we feel if we aren’t stressed or busy, we aren’t doing enough, achieving enough or plain and simply – we’re not good enough.

Ouch. It struck me right to the heart. But I was open to learn more and try to shift from not feeling good enough if I wasn’t crazy busy to a place of quiet and content.

& this is what I learnt…

I learnt that there is a difference between being stressed vs being busy & productive.

I learnt that we are not our minds, we can choose what we wish to think at any moment of any day.

I learnt a new favourite saying “watch what you’re thinking, because you are listening” (isn’t that so powerful?)

I learnt that stress can be as easily managed as choosing a good thought over a bad thought. (seriously it can be that simple)

I learnt that we need to start asking ourselves better questions (not what is wrong with me? How about we start asking what is right with me?)

I learnt that our bodies really do have psychological responses to emotional thoughts ( our thoughts reallllllllllyyyy do become our reality).

I learnt that whatever our mind perceives, our body believes (if you think you are stressed, tired, worn out and can’t go on, then your body is going to feel stressed, tired, worn out and like it can’t physically go on).

I learnt – that we really, seriously do control our own universe and world with our thoughts.

I learnt that we are good enough, in charge, and need to take SO much better care of our bodies. Sooo much.

I pledged even harder than ever before to really start taking the best of the best care of myself. We all need too. To Sleep more, eat better, shift our thoughts to change our world and be the best version of ourselves we can be.

My wish for you is the following though (after such an amazing shift in my own thoughts & knowledge from the night) …

I hope you start sleeping more, stressing less, taking power of your thoughts and loving your beautiful self fully and completely.

After that session (& a recent detox I have embarked on I will be sharing) I pledge to you more strongly than ever that I will do everything in my power to make this space a space to help you with all of that, every visit to the site.

Today though it’s as simple as this – make a promise to yourself that you will get to bed a little earlier, and think even just a few more positive thoughts in your day today.

You totally owe it to yourself – & your mind and body will love you for it.

Yours in peace & a de stressed zone,
Anna xx

Slowing life down a little; & why you should too

You might have noticed it’s been a little quiet around here this week, & I just wanted to stop past to say it has happened by accident but I have decided to roll with it.
Life got really crazy really quickly since last Saturday and I am just letting the wind pull me where it wishes to at this particular moment in time which has been lovely. Instead of being able to pour my heart & soul in to love soaked posts for this little space I’ve been spending some quality time with the oh so handsome fiance, getting on top of my emails from some of you beautiful girls who have been emailing me recently for advice and general gorgeous words and lastly, and most excitedly, planning the styling for and getting invites out for the impending engagement party (cue excited girly screams, big smiles and a heart so full of love it could burst).

So basically, I’m checking in with myself, in big ways, I’m learning and owning when it’s time to switch off than stay connected, and listening to my heart and quiet the doubt & guilt in my head (of not going going going!)

I thought it was a perfect little opportunity to remind you to do some of your own checking in, you know, just be aware of your space, what your body and mind is really craving at the moment and give that to yourself.
It might be an early night to catch up on some sleep, an early morning to embrace a stunning sunrise, a day off exercise to give your body a rest, a day of exercise to kick start an amazing day or just general switch off”edness – but whatever it is, listen, tune in and honour your gorgeous self by giving your mind, body, spirit exactly what you need at this moment in time.
I have and it feels amazing.
Muchos love beautifuls x x
