Your choice to live a happier life

It’s 5am. The alarm starts to ring with whatever favourite tune I have picked to awake me that week, and I slowly blink my eyes open from a deep, amazing sleep … I get out of bed, with a smile on my face, already grateful I am awake and realise I have been gifted another day. Some days are easier than others to get out of my huge warm bed, but no matter what I know this…

I am truly, deeply, wildy convinced that an early start sets you up for a successful day.

So it doesn’t matter that I am tired some days. It doesn’t matter that I have had a late night. It doesn’t matter that I could think of 1,000 other things I could/would like to be doing rather than getting out of my that warm bed at 5am what does matter is I know regret of not setting my day up for success with a work out and early start far outweighs tired feelings – every time.

It was because of this mindset I was gifted a big uh huh moment the other day that came from listening to my mentor and friend David Wood from ‘The Kick Ass Life’ on the treadmill the other day at said 5am gym work out.

My uh huh moment was along the lines of a positive vs negative mindsets and why some people can have abundant and successful lives whilst others don’t.

& I realised this …

It’s a choice. It’s ALL a choice. Success is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Love is a choice. Being positive a choice. Seeing the good in people and things is a choice. Laughter is a choice. Living a beautiful life is a choice. But on the other side, so is the bad shit. Failing and not getting back up is a choice. Negativity is a choice. Bitchiness is a choice. Playing the victim is a choice. Deciding to play small and not live up to the hero inside of you is a choice.

I have come to learn again, and again and again and again, that ALL the greatness, power, love and happiness lies within each and every person. I am going to repeat that again.  ALL the greatness, power, love and happiness lies within each and every person. There is only one person with the power and ability to bring that out and that person is….You.

Picture it’s like you having a master key, and you are the one solely responsible for unlocking it. Until you do, its inside, burning brightly just smothered in doubt and fear. And doubt and fear don’t serve anybody, especially you.

Trust me when I say this too. Do I personally still hear my inner critic? For sure gorgeous, I really do. I still have bad moments too (moments, not hours or days – critical point of difference). I still see that not everything is perfect in this world nor will it ever be. I just manage my thoughts. I make managing my thoughts a daily practice. EVERYONE has the ability & power to do that. EVERYONE. There is of course negative, bad, devastating shit in the world. Everyday. I don’t ignore that I just make a choice to every single day, in every single hour to focus on the positive.

To choose better, to choose happiness and love and positive thoughts over negative ones means you will forge a strong and happy life for yourself and all of those around me. By focusing on light, and love and positive things in your life, you WILL attract more of the exact same in your world. You can then contribute to the world more positively. Fact. When you focus on darkness & negativity in your life however, you create more of THAT. Fact.

I’m asking you a serious, serious question. Of the above – what would you prefer? To go out in the world, everyday, contributing with love & light and being part of the solution … or going out negative, bitchy, miserable and a victim “that will never happen to me, Its not possible” … and be part of the Problem.

Again…its just a CHOICE. A really, really, easy choice. That you can make in an instant. Constantly.

Just choose better. If you can’t understand why things aren’t going your way, why you always get stuck in crappy situations, why love never works out for you…look inside first. To what you think, believe and are actively doing in your life…then choose better. Better thoughts. Which lead to better feelings. Which leads to better actions…which leads to a better LIFE.

It’s just a thought. But remember, it’s small thoughts collectively that can change the world.
p.s see why 5am starts are so great? You get to have moments to yourself like this. HA xx

I’m back

Hi. Hello. Aloha. Hola
It’s been a little (ok, a lot) quiet around here the past 4 months and for that, I am sorry. It wasn’t because I needed a break, or because I lost the passion for my corner of the web that expresses itself in this blog, it was just other areas of my life called for a lot more of my attention – they still do – but to not write from my heart and share it in this space doesn’t make me feel whole. So today, even though I have two A4 pages of ‘to do’ lists, meetings to book and calls to make, I sat to write my first piece back to you.
And you know what? It feels good. No, it feels great.
I don’t come with any changes – I will still write exactly as I did before as I showed up authentically with any promises. I also don’t come back with any rules, I’m still a risk taker, life enthusiast, heart on my sleeve kinda gal and my writing will always reflect that. Full disclosure; There may also very well be a week that passes by that it goes a little quiet again and that  won’t mean anything other than life will have just gotten a teeny busy again.
Here is the thing for me though. I love to write. I love to sit and get emotion and feelings and words on to paper. It is part of who I am. So to not, just doesn’t feel right. So, although life is crazier now than ever, ever before – I don’t want to let go of writing and sharing the wild journey and lessons along the way.
To me, this space has grown and evolved with me, in every which way. In fact, it was THIS space where it really all begun for me. It signifies the time I had just come through some major growth and had set out on a new journey of self love and discovery. I was the girl trying to figure it out and had no qualms sharing that in here as I went along. As I sit here and write this, March 2014 – a mere two days before my 26th birthday – I am still that same girl, I am just still doing more growing, and the last 6-12 months have been the craziest of my life. So to share that journey and continue to have this space grow as I grow is something I am committed to.
So there it is. I’m back. To the beautiful readers who checked in regularly to see if another post had been put up – thank you from the bottom of my heart for sticking with it (I can see from the blog stats) .. I promise I will always honour the space I’ve created here with showing up, telling the truth, having fun and sharing from the heart and soul – my own words and words of others that inspire and uplift me.
With gratitude, light & love as always,
Anna xx
p.s there is some web designing currently underway for lifesshinyprettythings 2.0 where it will still be the same content and premise, just…shinier

4 ways to live a happier life

Life, whether you are having a great day or a bad day, truly is a beautiful, overwhelmingly extraordinary gift. Here we are on planet earth, just far enough away from the sun to sustain life, living and breathing, being gifted day after day after day.

Whatever you believe in, whatever cards you’ve been dealt, it is our duty and obligation to full comprehend that life truly is a gift and is yours to honour and to live with gusto.

We choose what we feel, what we experience, what we interpret, so today I am challenging you to always choose happiness and here are some of my ways I seize my days.

Be more Grateful

Did you know that? No, did you really reallyyyyy know that? Gratitude, and expressing gratitude is so fundamental to living a more joy filled existence. Starting every day with gratitude can solely change your life. As soon as your eyes open, smile, because you have a new day that is yours to fill with anything and everything that you love.

Have you been able to wake in a warm bed? How incredibly lucky. Were you then able to jump in to a hot shower and wash your skin? Even more amazing. Do you have the love of your life living with you or some adorable kids you have brought in to the world? GIVE THANKS.

We get so caught up in what’s not going right for us these days that we forget to give thanks for what is going right – so much of our days and moments are things we take for granted, but it is all things to be grateful for. Once you start finding gratitude in the small things, like a hot cup of coffee, or a smile you got from a stranger, you will start to attract more wonderful things in to your life. Like attracts like, the law of attraction works in marvellous and beautiful ways. Like Shakti Gawain says –If we are basically positive in attitude, expecting and envisioning pleasure, satisfaction and happiness, we will attract and create people, situations, and events which conform to our positive expectations.”

The more you strengthen your gratitude meter the happier you will become. Don’t ever let another day pass without at least writing either in the morning or at night, 3 things you were happy about. Buy a journal or even just scribble it on the fridge, but jot down what you are grateful for, your gains, little or big, significant or not, and watch your life change in an instant and the law of attraction welcome up some beautiful moments for you.
& remember….

Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us be thankful – Leo Buscaglia

Quit Comparing

Does it feel like your girlfriend always seems to just be so flawless even on bad days? Or the places you hang out online recently all seem to be flooded with the same girls killing it? Or maybe you are not where you want to be weight wise and if you could just loose another 5kg like that girl you see at the gym?

STOP IT. Right now. Don’t ever waste another minute or slice of your precious energy on comparing yourself to someone or something seemingly ‘better off’ than you.
We were all born as complete individuals in a vast and astounding world. We each carry a unique soul, a unique set of fingerprints and a unique dna code. We each value things differently, have been brought up with different values, and react to things differently. So why would you ever for a second compare where you’re at or what you look like to anybody buy yourself?
They say the only person you should ever compete with is the person you were yesterday, and it’s so true. I also loved reading the quote up above – don’t compare your chapter 1 to someone else’s chapter 20. Let go of comparitinitis – and start living your own story, dance to the beat of that own amazing drum and start living your own life. You are so stunningly divine and have so so much to share with the world as yourself. As soon as you can harness that and start living that truth, that’s when you will grow exponetially and wonder how or why you ever compared in the first place.
Where you’re at and how you’re doing it is just fine babe, perfect in fact.
& remember…

“If you’re your authentic self, you have no competition” – Scott Stratten

Be of Service

One of the fastest ways you can improve your day is by improving someone else’s. The minute you take the focus off you and how you can help yourself, and instead shift your energy towards helping others, the minute your life will take a dramatic turn.
We are here to align with our purpose and ultimately, each and every one of our purposes is to serve others. Through helping others we help ourselves. It costs nothing to smile at a stranger, to offer to carry an older person’s groceries to the car, to go and read books or paint nails in the local aged care homes. It costs nothing to give a genuine compliment, to give your time at a hospital or for a great cause and it costs nothing (in hindsight) to donate small amounts to great wonderful causes.
Life is on fire when you serve,  it gels, it aligns, you vibrate at a higher frequency – it just it makes sense. So next time you’re having an off day, or week or month – give some time to a worthy cause, give an unexpected compliment or try to make a goal to make at least 10 people laugh in that day, not just because they’re worth it…but you’re worth it.

Exercise Daily

That’s right, you have to get up, and get moving. We all know the benefits of exercise, you know, stuff like reducing your risk of getting heart disease, increasing your level of muscle strength, enhancing your sexual desire (yup) and helping you to more effectively manage stress, but it also just feels really fucking good

Endorphin’s are clever, amazing little things that kick in after a good solid work out, they really are a free high. Even if you can just get up and get moving for half an hour a day, be it on your lunch break, or even before and after work you will feel so so much better for it (not to mention start looking healthier and in turn happier as well).

There really are no excuses. Winter is always going to come, so we need to just embrace the cold, if you’re tired in the mornings, go to bed earlier, if you complain you have no time, then we need to talk – there are 24 useable hours in a day and you might need to just look at how effectively you’re managing your time. Getting up and getting moving is so important to a happier and healthier body and brain function so make a promise to yourself that there will be no more excuses and if you do fall off the wagon, you don’t waste a minute in time getting back up again.
